6 Reasons why you should go abroad | by LiveFurther

Deciding whether or not you should go abroad can be real hard. When you go abroad, you're not only crossing the borders to a foreign country, but you're also stepping out of your comfort zone into a real new adventure. Stepping out of your comfort zone may sound very anxious, but think about all the good things that will come from it. You might think that you have hundred of reasons to stay at home, but we think that you have thousands of reasons to go abroad.

Speaking from my own experience I could say that it was a very hard decision whether to go abroad or not. I felt like there was a little angel on my right shoulder and a little devil on my left shoulder. The angel keeps telling me that it would be a great experience to go abroad, that I would make lots of new friends, gain lots of new experiences and that it would be a great new adventure for me. Then on the other side there was the little devil on my shoulder saying all kind of demotivating things like you don't want to go abroad, you will feel lonely, you will miss home and all that kind of stuff. Luckily the angel voice won and I decided to go abroad. The 6 decisive reasons for me I would love to share with you.

1. See more of the world

When you have the opportunity to go abroad, grab it with both hands. The opportunity to go abroad comes with the opportunity to see more of the world. By going abroad you'll experience a brand-new country, with incredible new outlooks, customs and activities. Discover new cultures, new terrains, natural wonders, museums and landmarks of your host nation.

Also when you're going abroad for a longer period you'll have the opportunity to visit neighborhood countries. For example, when you're staying in Barcelona you have the option to travel through various parts of Europe such as London, Ibiza, Paris and many more cities.

2. Develop yourself in many surfaces

It's understandable that you get a bit fearful when you decide to go abroad into a whole new experience. It's only natural to be a bit fearful of change and facing new and challenging experiences. You might find that going abroad really brings out your independent nature and it could scare you, but a huge benefit to going abroad is the opportunity to discover yourself while gaining an understanding of different culture. Being in a new place by yourself can be overwhelming at times, and it tests your ability to adapt to diverse situations while being able to problem solve. By going abroad you'll develop yourself on many sufaces, which is a really good thing and eventually you'll become a stronger person.

"In the end we only regret the chances we didn't take!"

3. Take in a new culture

When you're going abroad for the first time you might experience a huge culture shock. When you arrive in your new host country, the distinct cultural perspectives will fascinate you. When you go abroad you will find incredible new foods, customs, traditions and social atmospheres. You'll find that you have a better understanding and appreciation for the nation's people and history. When you're living abroad for a while you have the opportunity to experience a completely new way of life, which actually might be very interesting.

4. Extend your carreer opportunities

When you finish your time abroad and return home, you'll return with a new perspective on culture, language skills, a great education and a willingness to learn. All of these points are very attractive to future employers. If you don't want to go home you can even seek for work in your host country.

5. Gain life experience

Why go abroad? For most people, this time may be the only opportunity they ever get to travel abroad for a long period of time. Eventually you will find a job and career, and the opportunity to go abroad may turn out to be a once in a lifetime opportunity. This once in a lifetime experience you should take with no commitments but to study and learn about new cultures. Going abroad is an experience unlike any other, and we bet that you wouldn't have missed it once you're back home.

"And then I realized, adventure was the best way to learn!"

6. Make lifelong friends

Maybe one of your fears by going abroad is that you lose friends at home and that your friends are going to be really far out of the loop when you return home. First and foremost, your being abroad shouldn't change anything. You can still talk via Skype and phones and if your friends are true friends, they will be excited for you to go and do something with your life!

On the contrary, you'll make a lot of new friends when you're abroad. You'll meet new friends from around the world, friends who you can share interests with and learn new ideas from. Once you return home you can keep in contact with them and make plans to go and visit them in their hometowns. It's a grat opportunity to see more from the world and it may be useful to have contacts around the world for your later career.
